Veterans Day service in Fruita draws big crowd

FRUITA, Colo. (KREX) — On November 11, 11 am of 1918, a blanket of silence fell onto the scorched battlefields.

Armistice Day, now known as Veterans Day, commemorated the end of World War I.

At 11:11 am, over a hundred people gathered at the Western Slope Vietnam War Memorial for an hour-long service covered in red, white and blue to honor those who have served, including all of the ones who didn’t make it home.

Three people were awarded with a flag at the ceremony as a token of appreciation for their outstanding efforts in the community. Tom Vogt was one of the three; he tells WesternSlopeNow he didn’t expect to be picked but is ecstatic he was.

Thank you to all of the veterans who helped shape this wonderful country we call home.
