Two militants killed in Israeli drone strike in West Bank
Two militants were said to have been killed in an Israeli drone attack in Tulkarm in the West Bank on Monday.
The al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, said both had been members of the Islamist organization.
The Palestinian Health Ministry reported that three others had been injured in the attack on a vehicle.
The Israeli military confirmed the attack in the vicinity of Tulkarm, which lies in the north-west of the West Bank directly on the border with Israel. No further details were provided.
Tensions have risen in the West Bank since the October 7, 2023 attack mounted by Hamas on the Gaza Strip and the war in Gaza. The Palestinian Health Ministry puts the number of Palestinians killed in violence since then at 838.
Palestinian reports said that the Israeli military was continuing its operation in Jenin in the far north of the West Bank for the seventh day in succession. Sixteen people have thus far died in the operation, according to Palestinian sources.
The official Palestinian news agency WAFA reports that the Israeli military has been destroying houses in the city, a militant stronghold.
A six-week ceasefire is currently in place in Gaza.
