US: Nasdaq leads Wall Street higher at open after tariff break for electronics


[NEW YORK] Wall Street’s main indexes leapt at the open on Monday (Apr 14), with the tech-heavy Nasdaq up over 2 per cent, as investors welcomed the White House’s move to exempt smartphones and computers from US tariffs.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 333.4 points, or 0.83 per cent, at the open to 40,546.15.

The S&P 500 rose 78.6 points, or 1.47 per cent, at the open to 5,441.96​, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 396.0 points, or 2.37 per cent, to 17,120.442 at the opening bell. REUTERS
