Woman Tells Her ’Filthy’ In-Laws to ‘Suck It Up’ After They Complained About Her Cleaning Their Dirty House

NEED TO KNOW

  • A Reddit user explained why her brother-in-law is not happy with her for taking time to clean their shared bathroom
  • The woman said she and her husband temporarily moved in with his parents while they’re shopping for a new house
  • “My brother-in-law doesn’t like that he can’t use the bathroom during this time. He says it’s an inconvenience to everyone who uses that bathroom,” the woman wrote

A woman admitted that her cleaning habits have sparked “a couple of fights” with her in-laws — and now she’s wondering if she’s in the wrong.

The concerned woman explained on Reddit’s “Am I the A——” forum that she and her husband temporarily moved in with his parents after their lease ended and while they shop for a new house.

“There are now 6 people living in the house, as well as 3 dogs,” she wrote, adding that her mother-in-law asked for help cleaning while they stay. “There are only 2 bathrooms in the house, and 4/6 of us are using one.”

“My in-laws are filthy. When we moved in, it was like they hadn’t cleaned in months,” she continued, adding “the bathtub was basically black, floors hadn’t been mopped or vacuumed in ages, dishes everywhere, etc.”

The woman then detailed how her brother-in-law is the most upset.

“My brother-in-law doesn’t like that he can’t use the bathroom during this time. He says it’s an inconvenience to everyone who uses that bathroom,” she added. “I told him to suck it up because living in filth isn’t worth him having to not use the other bathroom for one hour.”

Wondering if she’s being unreasonable, the woman asked Redditors, “Am I the a—— for telling my in-laws to suck it up about my cleaning?”

Most people sided with the woman and reassured her she’s not the a——.

“You’re literally doing him a favor cleaning up after him so ignore him, and I hope you’re moving into your new house soon,” one person replied.

Another Reddit user agreed, commenting, “You’re cleaning for your own health and sanity and everyone benefits from it. The ‘suck it up’ seems well-deserved and well-delivered.”
